The Angst of
Wanderlust

photo and sound
My sound art brings up the idea of being an
American and wanting to explore the world, but simultaneously possessing a
ridiculous anxiety about travelling. Media attention makes the rest of the
world seem like a dangerous place. I feel this particular idea hinders
opportunities to actually experience multiculturalism, and “expand out
horizons.”. Speaking stereotypically, it “appears” that if an American female
were to travel, she would be a victim to the violence of the other areas of the
world or be abducted on the spot. This sound art piece represents the potential
angst behind this desire to travel [wanderlust].
